Christmas means giving.

It's after midnight and I'm posting late because I just can't seem to hold together a coherent thought during the day. Not that I'm very coherent right now, but at least I'm semi-conscious.

Never left the lot yesterday, but worked thirteen hours covering the annual Christmas toy drive. Not exactly news, but a good start to a more productive week.

(Heh-heh, I actually fell asleep on the couch at this point and picked up again in the morning.)

(Where was I?)

The toy drive is a great cause for our station to support with our partners, the California Highway Patrol (CHP). It started early in the morning and the first liveshots hit while I was still asleep during the 5:00am and 6:00am newscasts.

My shift started at 11:00am with a liveshot scheduled for the noon newscast. I also had a new freelancer training with me on our microwave trucks.

That's not the freelancer in the picture below, that's Kate Linder. She's Esther Valentine on "The Young and The Restless" (but you knew that, right?). Celebrities stopped by through the day to lend support.

It was a long day and we had multiple liveshots through each newscast. Lots of standing around and just a little stress each time we heard the control room give us a two to four minute warning before each hit.

After the first couple of times, you got used to the talent running out and getting into position. A minute or two to spare is a long time in news.

Everybody recognize this guy? Not the kid, the guy who looks like Erik Estrada.

Hey, that really is Erik Estrada. He was one of the celebs who stopped by and I'm pretty sure we got him because of the whole "CHiPs" connection (go, Ponch!). It was cool, we got a nice little bump up in the donation numbers because of him.

Well, not a lot of action, not a lot of adventure. We wrapped up around midnight and it was just a solid work day that went towards a good cause. I appreciate days like this when they come along.

Tomorrow might be something completely different.
