JPG Magazine: We Hardley Knew Ya.
While wasting entirely too much time surfing the internet over the weekend, I found out that JPG magazine might be folding.
If you never heard of JPG Magazine, that might go a long way towards explaining why they're on the brink.
What is (was) JPG Magazine? How do I describe it? In their own words:
"JPG is a community connected by a love of photography. Join us to share your pictures and stories and discover interesting photos by people like you! JPG is your view of the world around us with the best photos and stories published in the printed issues of JPG Magazine."
Did you get that? Anyone could become a member and submit photos. The best of these were selected to become part of the magazine. If your shot was selected they gave you a hundred bucks and one year subscription.
I thought it was cool. Inspiring examples of what's possible in still photography and a little less "slick" than other magazines. I'm bummed that they might not be around anymore.
On the other hand, for the time being, you can download in .pdf format back issues for free.
Woo. Let me say the important part again, FREE! For now at least, you can download back issues from their web site by clicking on the link here: JPG Magazine (from there, click on the word "Magazine" and then scroll down).
This is gonna to eat up a big chunk of my vacation. Not a bad thing.
I'm just saying.

Several investors I know are actively working to save JPG and success is all but assured. Don't fret too much...
Here's one effort:
